If each of us would only sweep our own doorstep, the whole world would be clean. To Sweep = using a broom, not a gas blower.

EAST SIDE TREE TEAM

STREET TREES

There are many tree lined streets in Los Feliz and Silverlake. There are many missing trees however and some streets with little or no trees. We are going door to door, trying to change that.

You as the homeowner or as the tenant can have the City Of Los Angeles plant a street tree in the public parkway in front of your house at no cost to you by filling out this form and sending it back to us.

The City will supply and plant it and you agree to water it to get it established. A deep watering (say two to three five gallon buckets) once per week is just fine.

Trees are a cheap and simple way to fix man made problems and make our planet more comfortable for us and other species.

Trees provide shade, AC use, reduce the urban heat island effect, cut down glare on sunny days. Trees create wind barriers thus helping to reduce heating costs.

Trees trap and absorb pollutants (such as dust, ash, pollen and smoke).

Trees absorb the carbon from carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.

Tress trap water from storms, reducing storm runoff and increasing the amount of water filtered back into the ground.

Trees, once established require minimal or no watering.

Trees are beautiful and thus increase property values. Trees provide privacy and create a feeling of relaxation and well being.

Life is just better with trees.

We have been going door to door in Los Feliz and Silverlake begging people to agree to have trees planted in the street in front of their house and to agree to care for them.

To date, we have 102 106 205 220 trees in the ground. That is progress.

What kind of tree will the city plant in front of my house? The city inspector will make that decision based on size, other trees on the street, availability, and yes your input (be sure to put commenst on your form) and in most circumstances will come from this street tree selection list.

No sense in planting trees if others are taking them down? We have got to protect our dearest trees.
